Dave Warner writes songs the way some people keep journals—honest, unhurried, and shaped by a life fully lived.

Raised at the end of a runway in Western Massachusetts, Warner learned early how to listen—to engines, to wind, to voices on the radio, to the quiet spaces between departures and arrivals. That sense of timing and attention carried him through a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a dog handler and as an air traffic controller, guiding aircraft safely home amid every imaginable weather and circumstance. It was work that demanded calm under pressure, precision, and trust—qualities that would later find their way into his songwriting.

Long before music took center stage, Warner was already telling stories through images. A lifelong photographer and filmmaker, he began shooting airshows as a kid and developed film in base hobby shops. He later ran studios, covered communities as a photojournalist, and published a weekly newspaper. His camera work—spanning aviation, weddings, small towns, and wide-open landscapes—taught him to frame moments that matter, a skill that now shapes his lyrical voice.

In recent years, the music moved from the background to the forefront. Warner’s songs draw from American roots traditions—country, folk, and classic storytelling ballads—grounded in real places and real lives. Whether he’s writing about front-porch evenings, small-town faith, long roads, lasting love, or the grace found in ordinary moments, his work reflects a deep respect for craft and clarity. These are songs written by someone who has watched storms pass and knows when to speak—and when to let silence do the work.

Today, Warner channels all of his experience through music and creative storytelling, while also serving as Executive Director of The Creative Outpost, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to film, media, and creative education in New York’s Mohawk Valley. The region’s history and landscape continue to influence his writing, grounding his songs in a strong sense of place.

Now in what he calls his “next chapter,” Warner is writing with purpose and joy—creating music, children’s stories, and reflective works that celebrate curiosity, kindness, and connection. It’s not a reinvention so much as a culmination: a lifetime of listening finally finding its melody.
